How this calculator works

Three sources of income

Your savings, the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS), added up and compared with the monthly income you want. Everything is in today’s dollars, before income tax.

Your savings

Savings grow at your investment return minus inflation until you retire, then pay out at the share you take out each year. If you retire before your pensions start, the calculator shows what savings alone give in those years.

Canada Pension Plan

CPP can start between 60 and 70. It is 0.6% smaller for each month before 65 and 0.7% bigger for each month after. Your own estimate is on My Service Canada Account. In 2026 the maximum at 65 is $1,507.65 a month and the average new pension is $858.34.

Old Age Security

OAS can start between 65 and 70, 0.6% bigger for each month you wait. From October to December 2026 the maximum from 65 to 74 is $762.50 a month. It depends on how many years you have lived in Canada since 18, and part is paid back at 15% of income above $95,323 (2026).
