TFSA or RRSP

TFSA or RRSP?Follow the tax.

Put the same pre-tax dollars in either account and see what each leaves you after tax. You give your tax rate now and the one you expect later; habitt does not guess your bracket.

How this calculator works

Same growth, different tax timing

Money in a TFSA or an RRSP grows without yearly tax. An RRSP contribution is deducted from your income now and taxed when you take it out. A TFSA is paid in with money you have already paid tax on, and comes out tax-free.

Two tax rates decide it

If your tax rate now is higher than when you take the money out, the RRSP leaves you more. If it will be higher later, the TFSA does. You enter both rates: habitt does not guess your tax bracket.

This year’s limits

The TFSA limit for 2026 is $7,000. New RRSP room is 18% of last year’s earned income, up to $33,810 for 2026 ($35,390 for 2027). Unused room carries forward. Your own room is on your CRA My Account.

Old Age Security

RRSP withdrawals count as income. Once your income passes $95,323 (2026), part of your OAS is paid back. TFSA withdrawals don’t count.
